Can three minutes in freezing water reduce inflammation, boost testosterone, and improve your relationships?
We talk with Dr. Thomas Seager, co-founder of Morozko, about the powerful impact of cold plunge therapy on physical and mental wellness. Dr. Seager shares how cold exposure helped him overcome a midlife crisis and prostate health concerns, offering both scientific insight and personal stories. We explore how cold therapy reduces inflammation, supports testosterone levels, and activates the calming dive reflex. The conversation emphasizes the psychological benefits of ice baths, from mental resilience to improved relationships and emotional bonding. Listeners are encouraged to embrace self-experimentation, discomfort, and present-moment awareness as tools for personal growth. Dr. Seager also challenges traditional medical norms, advocating for experience-based wellness decisions.

Hi – I just wanted to say I think you guys are walking a very fine line when promoting folks who dispense medical advice without any formal credentials. Telling people to literally ignore their doctors is not a scientific or productive way to help people, especially when you stand to gain. I’ve been listening for awhile, and this one was just a little too snake-oily for me, especially as a ‘wellness industry’ expat.
Sarah,
Thanks so much for your comment—and for being a longtime listener. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective.
For over 14 years of weekly podcasts, our goal has always been to expose our audience to a wide range of ideas, opinions, and practices—not to prescribe a one-size-fits-all approach to health or performance. As Thomas Seager said himself during the introduction of the episode, we all have the ability to try something new, evaluate the outcome, and decide for ourselves if it’s a fit. If it’s not, dismiss it.
We absolutely agree that medical professionals play a critical role in our health journeys. But they’re also human, working within systems that don’t always have the full picture. That’s why we believe it’s important to stay curious, to think critically, and to use our doctors as trusted consultants—while still taking ownership of our own health decisions.
If cold tubs, or any topic we cover, doesn’t resonate with you, that’s totally okay. And if it helps someone else, great. We’re here to encourage thoughtful exploration—not blind faith in any direction.
Thanks again for listening and engaging with the conversation
Scott & Don
I appreciate Sarah’s comments. After I shared the podcast with my 30ish year old children, they had similar thoughts. However, I really appreciate your response and appreciate your willingness to have him on the show. It was very entertaining and informative for me and certainly sparked my interest to learn more about Dr Seager and cold plunging. I don’t run as much as I used to, but still enjoy the podcast. looking forward to hear the results of the +70 year olds at Western States this weekend. Old dudes rock.
Thanks Frank. This years WS will be amazing to watch1
