There are those days when it is really cold and you want to get right back into bed. Well, the Golite Selkirk down jacket makes it easier to get out into the cold and is great for the post-run/race to keep the core temperature nice and toasty.
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS & REVIEW
The Selkirk is very light. It comes in at 6.30 oz. It’s not as light as my Montbell (5.06 oz), but it is still very light. The fabric construction uses Pertex Quantum GL. The main properties of this fabric are:
- Lightweight
- Best strength to weight ratio
- Windproof
- Soft as gossamer silk
- Very small packing volume
It’s a great balance between weight and strength. The Selkirk also combines premium 800 fill power goose down. We know that down is still the most thermally efficient insulation with a great balance between warmth to weight ratio and is easily compressibility. You can stow the jacket in either of the two zippered pockets (don’t need to worry about keeping track of a carry bag).
The Selkirk fits like a semi-fitted garment. There is great coverage on the backside to keep any draft at bay. Please note, I have a long torso so the length fit me perfectly with some additional coverage (which I like). For you “normal” torso folks, you may think the length is a little long.
The Selkirk worked very well at keeping me warm before and after my early morning trail runs. It definitely made getting out the door much easier. I especially enjoyed using the Selkirk after my post-runs to keep from getting too cold. I’ve enjoyed using the Golite Selkirk down jacket. It is a great piece of winter gear that is a must.

CONCLUSION
The combination of the Pertex Quantum GL fabric and the use of premium 800 fill goose down makes the Selkirk a lightweight versatile piece of winter gear to help you stay warm before and after your long trail runs and/or outdoor outings.
