TRAIL TESTING
Mix Master 2 & Mix Master Tuff
Both shoes were initially tested for an out-of-the-box 20 miler. They both tested well in all terrain. I even abused them on scree filled hills on multiple days. The Mix Master 2 is definitely more flexible than the Mix Master Tuff. They both drained well when wet, especially the Mix Master 2. I had no issues with midfoot protection thanks to the shock pad – it works. Traction was ample. Both are a great addition to the Merrell line of shoes that is not too minimal. I love that Merrell kept both models with a 4 mm offset.

Weight Breakdown
CONCLUSION
The Mix Master 2 is a flexible lightweight shoe with midfoot protection and cushioning in a 4 mm drop package. The Mix Master Tuff is a more stable shoe (not too structured) with midfoot protection in a slightly more cushioned 4 mm drop package. Trail runners looking for a minimal shoe without going too minimal will enjoy both models from Merrell.
